About Adam's Peak (Sri Pada)

Adam's Peak, also called Sri Pada, rises to about 2,243 metres and is one of the most sacred mountains in Sri Lanka. At the summit is a rock formation believed to be a footprint, honoured as that of the Buddha, Shiva, or Adam depending on the faith. The most popular route starts at Nallathanniya and climbs several thousand steps, mostly in the dark, so you arrive for sunrise. On clear mornings the mountain casts a triangular shadow across the land below. The main pilgrim season runs from around December to May, when the stairway is lit all night and tea stalls stay open along the way.
