About Yala National Park

Yala National Park in the south-east is the island's best-known wildlife park, with scrub jungle, lagoons, rocky outcrops and a long coastline. It is famous for its leopards, and Block I is considered one of the best places in the world to see them, though sightings are never guaranteed. Jeep safaris also bring you to elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, deer, wild boar and a rich variety of birds. Ancient ruins and shrines are found inside the park, and the sacred city of Kataragama is nearby. Because of its popularity, the busiest areas can have many jeeps at peak times.
